Here is a checklist of fall home maintenance tasks:

  • Clean gutters and downspouts. Clogged gutters can lead to water damage, so it's important to clean them out regularly. This is especially important in the fall when leaves start to fall and block the gutters. QUAD CITIES GUTTER CLEANING GUIDE

  • Check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Make sure they are working properly and have fresh batteries.

  • Inspect your roof. Look for any signs of damage, such as missing shingles or loose flashing. If you see any problems, have them repaired as soon as possible.

  • Trim trees and shrubs. Remove any dead, diseased, or dying branches. This will help to prevent them from falling on your home during a storm.

  • Inspect your siding and caulk. Look for any cracks or gaps in the siding. If you find any, seal them up with caulk to prevent water from getting in.

  • Inspect your windows and doors. Make sure they are all closing properly and that the weatherstripping is in good condition. This will help to keep your home warm in the winter.

  • Check your furnace and air conditioner. Have them serviced by a qualified technician to ensure they work properly.

  • Change your furnace filter. This should be done every month, but it's especially important to do it in the fall when the air is getting colder.

  • Prepare your garden for winter. Bring potted plants indoors and mulch your outdoor plants.

  • Store your outdoor furniture. If you have patio furniture, it's a good idea to store it indoors during the winter. This will help to prevent it from getting damaged by the elements.

  • Organize your garage and basement. This is a great time to get rid of any clutter that you don't need.

  • Inspect your foundation for cracks. If you see any cracks in your foundation, have them repaired as soon as possible.

  • Winterize your faucets. This will help to prevent them from freezing and bursting in the winter.

  • Inspect your fireplace and chimney. If you use your fireplace in the winter, it's important to have it inspected and cleaned by a professional.

  • Stock up on supplies. Make sure you have enough firewood, snow shovels, and other supplies on hand for the winter months.
